RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?
79powerwagon What is that web site for the 4 cyl diesel conversions, I have a 56 Dodge that is needing motor work, maybe I can start and learn there and move into rv in the future,, maybe..
RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?
Thanks for the feed back on 360 verse the 440, how ever I was not going to spend or waste money on a new 360 unless it was time to replace 440,"same cost" it has 110,000 miles now but still runs good, was just seeing if a 360 might get better mpg but I guess I was just wishing, did think it might be a problem in the mountains, I have installed a Holley TBI fuel inject system 2 years ago and mpg did go up and it burns a lot cleaner and can run 2 fuels "E-85 or unleaded" will probably stay with 440,,, but if Diesel did not cost so much more than unleaded than I might give that a go, but I know so little about Diesels and the parts always cost twice so that is not a option.. Maybe I will check my gears and look at that direction... Thanks..
RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?
Is there any old Dodge rv owners out there with a 360 motor that's in a 22-25 ft class c, was wondering about your gas mileage and performance,,, I am asking this because of the recent and long term high gas prices, and if I was to do any major motor work in the future on my 79 Dodge Xplorer with a 440 if it would pay off to get a 360 motor from junk yard and overhaul it, increase piston compression some and install my fuel inject system from 440 now to 360 and if it might get better mpg, or is this just a waste of time, any thoughts on this, any small block rv's out there what's your mpg, how is it in the mountains, etc...
RE: Michelin vs Cooper SRM ll Radial LT Tires
I to had Cooper SRM II tires on my 23 ft class c, had 2 blow outs in 1 1/2 years, 10,000 miles, Replaced all tires with Dayton commercial series '16.5', Dayton has a harder ride over the soft Coopers but have been told they are great for heat and loads, I hope..:C
RE: Should I change residency?
Change your NJ corp over to a Nevada corp and change your residency to Nevada as well since you will be living in your RV, its OK, Nevada has little to no corp tax, no income tax, no inheritance tax, in fact the tax word is almost illegal here, 'not really', if you look deep and hard into the Nevada corp you can save thousands in tax here, have your renter pay the rent to the NV corp and put the money in a bank here and NJ cant touch it... I know this because I have a NV corp and it saves me thousands a year...:B
RE: March 22 is World Water Day
One other note on water is that lake Mead here in the southwest "hoover/boulder dam" might dry up by 2021, that's only 13 short years away, Vegas gets 90% of it water from lake Mead..:(

Are you sure that 1990 Toyota has a carb, it might be fuel injected and that's why you have had few problems or any at all in that area.
If you only understood how to repair and tune that carb now on your RV you could save up $1000.00 and buy a Holley TBI and install it your self and bagged those carb bluuueeesssss, Its not that hard and it will make your motor burn cleaner and run better longer....
RE: Class C MPG
Banks is a good system but I have always thought it was a little pricey, you can have a good muffler shop install headers and a dual exhaust and performance mufflers, install your own cold air intake and will cost about half over Banks and still gain the same thing..

I did replace my stock air cleaner with a K&N as soon as I got it home, and it seems to have made a difference in my motorhome. I take it over the mountains from Alberta into B.C so my route is always the same and my milage stays between 13-14 MPG. All I can say is to try to make the engine breath easier and do the speed limit and you should get reasonable MPG's.

My reply is what do you folks up there in Canada have in your fuel,, because I have not seen or heard of any fuel MPG results like this in Class C RV's,, mine gets 8-10 mpg and most post are at low of 6 mpg and high of 11 mpg..
Can you send me some of that fuel I could use a lot...
RE: Class A "2008 tech" gasser camshafts ...chat ??
FYI >>>> I have been thru a lot of motors, even performance intakes and such and as always gas mileage suffered,, over the years I have learn that stock OEM motors most of the time '85%' is at its best for fuel mileage,, fuel inject is the best money spent for fuel mileage over a carb,, you can spend lots of time and $$$ on cams, manifolds, etc and your dollar to fuel mileage ratio increase will not be worth the time and $$$.. Spend $1000.00 one time on the Holley 2D TBI verse a carb, cam, manifold, etc and you should get your $$$ back pretty fast at today's gas prices,,, not to mention it will burn cleaner,, runs smoother and becomes a full flex fuel RV..... Just my 2 cents...
Go Flex Fuel its COOL..:C
I am taking my RV and family to Venice Beach Cali tonite will be back latter this week..
RE: ARE POSTERS HERE IN DENIAL??
Here in Vegas you see lots of large RV's for sale in people's drive ways, if this is happening all around than the used price of a RV must be dropping like the house prices around here in Vegas, we have lost 27% house value in the last 4 months here in Vegas, Gas prices are going to hurt sooner or later because we live in a driving society like no where else, however I don't plan on selling my RV any time soon, maybe because its paid for or I just like a backup emergency home just in case, either way I have cut out my long travel plans in future and only plan to travel close to home, max 500 miles big trips and lots of short trips..

You think that NONE of the cam people have done NOTHING to improve the fuel-efficiency of the OEM products ?
Reply :
Unless the OEM installed a large lift cam in motor,, changing cam lift from stock will not see much mpg increase and might go down in mpg unless you could do a dyno test for results,, changing intake manifold from stock does very little to nothing for mpg,,, driving a RV with a 'stone-age' carburetor is hurting your mpg in most cases,,,, Put $$$$ into a fuel inject system verse a old carb and your mpg will go up and motor will burn cleaner,, no dyno test needed with fuel inject system to prove mpg increase over a carb,,, The Holley 2D TBI is a low cost/easy to install alternative fuel inject system verse the multi-port type fuel inject system,, ..:B
RE: GM engine fan blades
masterboondoc wrote >>>> Reason ? ... the clutch fan "works" all the time .... the electric - ONLY when needed.
Reply :
Non-clutch fans work all the time,,, clutch fans work lees when temps are cooler and engages faster when temps are hotter to save fuel and HP verse a non-clutch fan,,, electric fans demand more amp draw from alt and makes alt work harder...
RE: Class A "2008 tech" gasser camshafts ...chat ??
Since the cams have been "Standardised" at the 0.50 it doesn't matter what engine they go in.......
The majority of Comp cams are ground with a 4ยบ advance in them and are mostly installed straight up BUT if someone wants to play the advance/retard cam stuff you better run it on a dyno program for the best results........
I'm for setting and forgetting.

However he is trying to get specs from modern 2000-08 cam spec's for chevy/ford and I don't think any of those spec's will be any good for a 70's dated mopar big block, big changes in emissions, fuel inject verse carb and lower octane fuels, etc,,, one should be looking at different 70's big block cam spec's for changes in this area, my experience from the past that some changes outside of stock spec's fuel mileage suffered,, want to gain more MPG in a carb RV is to upgrade to a better fuel/air management like a Holley TBI or a multi/port inject,, also a electronic distributor will be a great upgrade verse a point type...
RE: Class A "2008 tech" gasser camshafts ...chat ??
randallb,, You are so right with your post above, masterboondoc is better staying with the stock specs of Mopar for the cam on his RV, changing specs might kill the gas mileage, and yes what does the Chevy/Ford cam grinds have to do with Mopar cams, "most gearheads should know this"...:B
RE: No medical insurance .... and being a cash customer ...??
Hospitals always charge more for non insured folks, do what I did, when the high price bill came in I called there billing dept and spoke with someone with power to change the billing and told her that if you don't decrease billing by at least 30-40% than I will only send in $20.00 per month on billing, and guess what, she called back the next day and reduced it 45%... You do have the power on your side if you know how to use it, if you send in just very small monthly payments it does help keep it out of collections hands and they will bring the price down a lot to settle the bill....
RE: Generac Valve adjustment, necesary?
I have the Generac 50G and I don't recall any valve adjustments needed at all in the manual, only replace oil/filter/plug at 1st 50 hours and 100 hours after that, but I will have to look at manual and see if its there, but I don't believe it is...
RE: Gas or Diesel?
The Diesel will give you around 2-5 more mpg with comparing to same weight and size of RV with a gas motor, but as you probably know the cost of a Diesel RV will be more and so will the up keep on that motor over time as well as the cost of Diesel is more per gal, you must also look at how many miles per year are you going to drive the RV, if its under 8000 miles per year the extra cost of a Diesel and up keep might cost you more $$$$ in the long run over gas, but if you are driving lots of miles and fulltiming all over the states than a Diesel will be a better choice...
RE: Class A "2008 tech" gasser camshafts ...chat ??
A fuel inject system would give you the best MPG increase, different cams and performance manifolds on heavy RV's wont do much for MPG increase, but will increase torque, most stock cams and manifolds are good for fuel MPG and average HP/Torque..
Put your $$$$$ into a fuel inject system over the cam/manifold, a good exhaust system will be great also..:B
